KNOW HOW TO BE FREE TO ACHIEVE ANYTHING YOU WANT IN LIFE
It seems that everyone is seeking answers in life. Socrates, the greatest philosopher who ever lived said, as he went to the oracle at Delphi “I seek a wise man.”
The inscription at the entrance to the temple of the oracle read,
KNOW THYSELF
From that point Socrates knew what he must devote his life to if he was to achieve his goal of discovering a wise man.
HE HAD TO QUESTION
So what is important is not so much the answer as choosing the right question. Just think it through a moment. If you want to solve a vexing problem, or answer a challenge in your life, or right a wrong, if you ask the wrong questions it doesn’t matter what the answer is, you will not resolve whatever the problem is. The obvious answer is, you must ask:
THE RIGHT QUESTION
I have named this site HowCanI because this is the eternal, most widely asked question in the universe. Let’s look at this. How Can I? asks,
“In what way can I BE whatever it is I must be?”
“In what way can I DO what must be done?”
“In what way can I HAVE what is needed?”
With those three questions answered, no challenge, or problem or situation can defeat you.
CANI also stands for something else. In the Total Quality Movement it stands for:
CONTINUOUS AND NEVER ENDING IMPROVEMENT
Imagine what life would be like if you were on a pathway of continuous and never ending improvement. So the question:
HOW CAN I ?
has two different, but connected meanings.
So, before you know something you first not know about it. Appropriate questioning will yield DATA which, when evaluated by the individual, becomes INFORMATION. Once the information is internalized and becomes part of the individual’s schema (Body of knowledge) it becomes KNOWLEDGE. This knowledge, if applied appropriately, leads to UNDERSTANDING. Constructive experience and review of the original DATA can lead to the creation of NEW KNOWLEDGE and, ultimately, WISDOM.
WISDOM, APPLIED INTELLIGENTLY, LEADS TO MASTERY
It is important to realize that it is not the DATA or INFORMATION that is important, it is your UNDERSTANDING and CONSTRUCTIVE APPLICATION that leads to a better quality of life for you and those around you and MASTERY of whatever SKILL, KNOWLEDGE OR ABILITY you are faced with.
The significant difference between HowCanI and others is I don’t offer you a system of doing things, or ask for a blind leap of faith. There is little mystery to achieving mastery of whatever you desire. There are no miracle methods that will deliver you all the rewards that life has to offer.
What I can show you is a way to fulfill the direction on the oracle’s door at Delphi. That is to
KNOW THYSELF
Slavishly following a system imposed on you by others will work part of the time.
UNDERSTANDING HOW YOU OPERATE AND THE PHILOSOPHY THAT UNDERPINS ALL SKILL, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY WILL ENABLE YOU TO TAKE THE PATH TO MASTERY AND BE YOURSELF ON THE WAY.
Let’s take an example of what I mean. One of the greatest fears people have is PUBLIC SPEAKING.
You can read millions of words about how to public speak. You can even get yourself hypnotized to overcome the fear. Much of what has been presented can educate you on the techniques of presentation and are valuable. What is not taught is:
HOW TO OVERCOME THE FEAR
You are not even told:
WHAT THE FEAR IS
Or
THE ORIGIN OF THE FEAR
There is only one fear with regard to public speaking.
It has only one origin.
All fears have one element in common:
THERE IS SOMETHING UNKNOWN
I have helped hundreds of people become accomplished public speakers.
How did I do it?
I HELPED THEM REMOVE THE UNKNOWN ELEMENT
What did this mean?
THEY UNDERSTOOD THE FEAR AND ITS ORIGIN
Here is the fundamental truth behind the creation of human ability:
YOU CANNOT MASTER WHAT YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND
